Cruise Cocktail Recipe: Aztec Old Fashioned, 2 Ways

Updated: Oct 14, 2022

The Old Fashioned is traditionally made with Bourbon, but in the Caribbean, you'll often find it made with Rum.

Here we present our recipe for an Aztec Old Fashioned made both ways. The rich Aztec Chocolate bitters marry beautifully with the Orange Bitters. In addition to the orange peel, you can top with some shaved chocolate.

Ingredients

2 oz Bourbon or Rum.

5 dashes Aztec Chocolate Bitters

3 dashes Orange Bitters

Dash Simple Syrup (optional)

Orange peel twist

Shaved chocolate (optional)

Instructions

Add ice to a mixing pitcher or large glass

Add all ingredients except the orange peel

Place a large ice cube into an Old Fashioned glass

Use a cocktail strainer to pour the drink into the glass

Add the orange peel

Shave the chocolate over the glass if using.

Notes

Use your favorite Bourbon or Rum in this recipe, we prefer:

Jefferson's Very Small Batch Bourbon and Mount Gay Black Barrel Rum

The Aztec Chocolate and Orange Bitters are from Fee Brothers

The use of large ice cubes made specially for cocktail drinks means less water melt into your drink.

I use this model to make large spheres.

I use something like this to make large cubes.
